Volunteer FAQ

When’s dinner (and everything else)?

GiveCamp is a fully catered event. Mealtimes are typically noon and six pm. We try to accommodate special dietary needs, so tell us if you have specific requests when you apply.
As far as the schedule goes, you should plan to be available to your team for the entire event. Plan to be onsite or online most of the weekend. A little bit more about what that will look like is on our Event Schedule.

When will I find out what I’m doing?

You’ll get your team assignment within a week of the event so you can begin researching your nonprofit.
Be on the lookout for periodic emails from the team to help you prepare for the event. We try to avoid last-minute changes to team assignments but it does happen sometimes.

What should I wear?

We suggest comfortable layers.
No need to dress up. We’re casual here at GiveCamp.
If you get cold, definitely bring a sweater.

What should I bring?

We provide pens, notepads, post-its, and some other miscellaneous supplies, but we do not supply laptops or computers.
Please bring your own computer, a charging cable, and a flexible attitude.

Are we really camping?

No- our GiveCamp isn’t really a camp.
We try to wrap up work by 10 pm every night so our volunteers can make it home safely each night.
You can always get a hotel room close by if travel is too far, but we don’t offer reimbursement for volunteer expenses.

Will I get to code?

Probably not. But it’s hard to say.
We typically build our websites in WordPress, so the most coding you will do is CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and HTML.
